CES educator joins Big Horn County extension office

An educator with emphasis in livestock and public land management will join the Big Horn County University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES).

Dallen Smith began today, Friday, July 27, in the Greybull office and will serve Big Horn, Hot Springs, Park and Washakie counties.

“Dallen brings a broad knowledge in addition to CES experience, which will be valuable to the Big Horn Basin area,” said Susan James, UW CES federal relations and staff development coordinator.

Smith was raised on a purebred cattle operation in Mountain View, Alberta, by Waterton National Park. He later managed the family operation that ran 100 cows, 1,200 sheep and several brood mares. He returned to school and earned his bachelor’s degree in 1995 and will receive his master’s degree in August, both from Utah State University in Logan, Utah. The past four years he was the agriculture water quality coordinator with Utah State University Extension. He worked with feedlots and dairies throughout the state on manure management.

“I enjoy working with producers and being an advocate for them and look forward to working with producers in Wyoming,” he said. He and his wife, Jayna, from Thayne, Wyo., have seven children. “We look forward to making new friends in the Big Horn Basin and the rest of Wyoming,” he said.
