Master Gardener LogoSweetwater County gardeners get chance to quiz UW experts

Pesky problems Wyoming gardeners may face this growing season are among the discussion topics when University of Wyoming Master Gardener leaders meet in Rock Springs May 7-8 for their annual spring conference.

The pooling of talent will allow Rock Springs area gardeners to bring in their plant, lawn and tree issues during a “Hort Blitz” by Sweetwater County UW Cooperative Extension Service (CES) horticultural educator Cora Botello with local and state Master Gardeners. House plant problems, lawn issues, vegetable garden problems, tree questions and insects for identification can be brought to the CES office 7-9 p.m. on the Western Wyoming Community College campus at 2500 College Drive Thursday, May 7.

Master Gardeners will work with local residents on a plan to solve gardening and landscape problems.  If necessary, Master Gardeners may perform a limited number of yard calls the following morning.

Master Gardeners are volunteers with local CES offices who respond to landscape and gardening problems.  They have undergone extensive horticultural training and are experienced with most landscape problems including soil issues, plant disease problems, cultural growing conditions and pest problems.

The annual conference allows Master Gardener members to catch up with each other’s local program activities, exchange information on current horticultural issues and consider what problems Wyoming gardeners may face during this year’s growing season.

“This is such a fun activity for Master Gardeners,” said State Master Gardener Chairman Judy Logue of Casper.  “We really enjoy meeting local gardeners and seeing their gardening challenges.  It gives us a fresh perspective on unique local issues like difficult soils and problematic weather conditions.  Cora (Botello) and her Master Gardeners will be sure to bring us up to speed on Sweetwater County’s local conditions.  We’re hoping local gardeners will stop by on Thursday evening to visit with us and get acquainted with their local CES office and staff members as well.”
