UW publications spice up, take guesswork out of good nutrition
Consumers finding the bewildering amount of nutrition information hard to swallow can cut through the malarkey, add spice to their lives and take the mystery out of serving sizes with three new publications from the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES).
The publications were written by Sarah Francis, UW CES assistant nutrition and food safety educator for Albany and Carbon counties.
Nutrition Quackery (MP-121.2) provides 10 red flags of junk science and questions to ask when looking at health information, products and advertisements.
Add Some Spice to Your Life (MP-121.3) provides herb and spice lists that complement vegetables and types of meat.
Estimating Serving Sizes: It’s all in the Hands (MP-121.1) gives handy ways of estimating food serving sizes using fingers or hands. For example, a one cup serving is about the size of a fist or one tablespoon is about the same size of two thumbs together.
The publications are available for free download at http://ces.uwyo.edu/FCSpubs.htm.
Francis can be reached at (307) 328-2642 or sfranci4@uwyo.edu.
