Web presentation explains Wyoming AgrAbility, helping ag producers with disabilities
Those working with farmers and ranchers with disabilities are invited to participate in a Web presentation Thursday, May 8, about Wyoming AgrAbility and considerations for working with those who are disabled.
The presentation starts at noon and will last about 40 minutes, said Amanda Hearne, project coordinator for Wyoming AgrAbility (http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/agrability/). Registration is limited, and those interested are encouraged to register by calling toll-free (866) 395-4986, or e-mail agrability@uwyo.edu. Upon registration, attendees will receive an e-mail with the link into the meeting room presentation.
Wyoming AgrAbility is part of a national program administered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, focused on promoting independence for members of the agricultural community who have disabilities resulting from injury, illness, aging or other causes.
“We encourage everyone to participate in this presentation and the AgrAbility program,” Hearne said. “Our aim is to help ranchers and farmers with disabilities continue working and stay on the farm.”
She added that the AgrAbility staff is eager to offer assistance ranging from developing assistive devices to working up strategies that will allow disabled farmers and ranchers maintain their lifestyle.
The only equipment required for the presentation is an Internet connection. Those registering will have a video image of the presenter. Questions can be submitted in writing during the presentation via the chat function. More information will be given upon registration.
“We encourage everyone with an interest in agriculture or who might know an ag person who needs assistance to participate in this presentation. It’s a new way of presenting information statewide, and we are anticipating widespread participation,” Hearne stated.
