December 10, 2007UW renewable resource students dominate competition
University of Wyoming students from the Department of Renewable Resources took top places in all categories against students from Chadron State College of Nebraska at the recent joint meeting of the Wyoming Chapters of the Soil and Water Conservation Society, Society for Range Management and The Wildlife Society.
The meeting, “Wyoming's Wildlife Habitat: From the Ground Up,” was Nov. 26-28 in Lander.
The students are in the College of Agriculture. Mae Peterson, a senior rangeland ecology and watershed management major from Pinedale, won the two individual competitions and was on the first-place Rangeland Cup team.
Results of student contests are:
Plant Identification – First, Peterson; second, Sarah Hanlon, Cheyenne; third, Sage Askin, Douglas.
Undergraduate Range Management Examination (URME) – First, Peterson; second, Lucas Bindel, Greeley, Colo.; third, Hanlon, Cheyenne.
Rangeland Cup – First, University of Wyoming. Peterson; Rives White, Daniel; Dusty Smith, Santa Fe, N.M.; Landon Smith, Holyoke, Colo.
The University of Wyoming also won the URME team competition.
