strip tilled-cornStrip tillage demonstration March 20 at UW Powell Research and Extension Center

Growers are invited to a demonstration of strip tillage equipment at the University of Wyoming Powell Research and Extension (R&E) Center Thursday, March 20.

Growers may come anytime from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The demonstration will be in a field that had corn for silage last year. Representatives from Orthman Manufacturing, Inc., Lexington, Neb., and Schlagel Inc., Cambridge, Minn., will be on hand to demonstrate their equipment and answer questions. Growers interested in reducing tillage trips and thus reducing costs are encouraged to attend.

“Strip tillage is probably best suited to sprinkler irrigation but could possibly be adapted to furrow irrigation,” said Mike Killen, Powell R&E Center farm manager. “Row crops can then be seeded directly into the tilled 8- to 10-inch bands without disturbing the soil between the strips.”
