UW extension’s summer workshop series in Cody features people skills
Training to help deal with angry people, build better meetings and negotiate better are among Summer Series workshops offered by the Park County University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES).
Others include negotiation training and two about community action – social action and discord or dialogue.
“The Summer Series provides training in practical, everyday skills participants can use when they walk out the door,” said Rhonda Shipp, UW CES educator who organized the workshops. “The topics are favorites of past trainees who spread the word and create an audience.”
All sessions are at the EOC room in the Park County Courthouse. Fees range from $15 to $25 for each class.
The schedule is:
May 28-29 – “Facilitation: The Science and Art” offers tools to facilitators, chairmen or officers to move groups forward and make progress in positive and effective ways.
June 10-11 – “The Back and Forth of Win-Win: Negotiation Training.” Learn negotiation skills to help navigate through discord, controversy or conflict.
June 25 – “People and Meetings.” Morning session: “Dealing with Angry Upset People.” Increase confidence handling unpleasant situations. Afternoon session: “Building Better Meetings.” Learn how to conduct better meetings using simpler, more flexible tools that enhance meeting productivity while honoring democracy and order.
June 26 – “Community Action.” Morning session: “Social Action Process.” The value of a systematic approach to address community issues and projects will be taught. Afternoon session: “Discord or Dialogue.” Participants will learn a positive way to handle difficult situations where there is a lack of agreement among a group.
“All trainings are interactive and practical,” said Shipp. “Participants observe demonstrations, experience techniques through hands-on learning and work in pairs or small groups to practice skills.”
Preregistration is required at least five days before each session. Forms are available at www.parkcounty.us/extension/extension.htm or call (307) 527-8560 or toll-free (800) 786-2844, ext. 8560, for forms or for more information.
