December 21, 2007UW, USDA host range management workshop in Rock Springs
Seeding methods, grazing management and new plant development for improving pastures and rangelands are topics of a seminar Tuesday, Jan. 8, in Rock Springs.
The seminar is provided by the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS). The workshop is 9:45 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Outlaw Inn, 1630 Elk St.
“Successfully managing range resources is crucial to the long-term success of Wyoming producers,” said Bridger Feuz, UW CES educator for Uinta and Sweetwater counties. “This workshop will provide information and tools to help producers make good range management decisions.”
ARS plant scientists and UW CES personnel will present information.
Lunch will be provided by the Forage and Range Research Laboratory in Logan, Utah.
Seminar topics include:
▪ Research and development resources available from USDA ARS
▪ New developments in rangeland grasses
▪ Native grass materials for rangeland production
▪ Maximizing productivity of pastures and rangelands
▪ Ecological site descriptions
▪ Forage kochia: Livestock, Wildlife and Wildfire
▪ Using plant materials to rebuild soils and control weeds
