UW offers rangeland management course in Powell
Grazing, rangeland monitoring and drought strategies are among topics at a Wyoming Rangeland Management School 101 course Friday, Nov. 16, at the Powell Research and Extension Center.
The school, with registration from 8-9 a.m. and course wrap up from 4:15-4:45 p.m., is provided by the Wyoming Section of the Society for Range Management (http://uwacadweb.uwyo.edu/wysrm/) in cooperation with the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES).
“Range 101 is the first school in a series of Range 101, 301 and 501,” said Barton Stam, UW CES range management educator serving Big Horn, Hot Springs, Park and Washakie counties. Each is a stand-alone course. “Range 101 deals with the basics of plant growth, time and timing of grazing, rangeland monitoring, applied grazing management and drought strategies.”
Presenters are from the UW CES, the USDA Forest Service, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and private ranches.
A $15 class fee includes the course curriculum, notebook, handouts and lunch. Pre-registration is recommended. For information about the course or how to register, contact UW CES educator Sandy Frost in Park County at (307) 754-8836 or sfrost1@uwyo.edu.Contact: Steven L. Miller, Senior Editor
