UW offers Master Gardener training in Powell, Cody

Want to learn more about gardening, meet local gardeners and serve your community?

Master Gardener training is being offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings by the Park County University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) from May to June in Powell.

Classes are 6:30-9 p.m. from May 1 to June 26, according to Sandy Frost, UW CES educator in Powell. The course will be 40 hours of gardening classes on topics including soils, insects, plant diseases, integrated pest management, vegetable and flower gardening, lawns, pruning and more.

The class is open to the general public and to those wishing to become Master Gardeners. Master Gardeners serve 20 hours of volunteer time each year and take eight hours of continuing education credits per year. The volunteer hours reduce the cost of the class. The course fee is $125 for those intending to become Master Gardeners, and $250 for those not intending to become Master Gardeners. The course fee includes the UW Sustainable Horticulture Handbook, a textbook for the course, one soil test and classroom materials.

Applications and the class schedule are available at the Powell UW CES office at the Park County Fairgrounds, the Cody UW CES office in the basement of the Park County Courthouse, or by calling (307) 754-8836 or (307) 527-8836 for more information.
