Bolunteer 4-H Leader and memberMaster 4-H volunteer training session Sept. 6-7 in Riverton

Training to bolster talents of the state’s 4-H volunteers is Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7, at the Riverton Holiday Inn-Convention Center.

There are more than 5,700 registered 4-H’ers in Wyoming, and there are more than 3,000 Wyoming adults who serve as volunteer leaders.

“At the heart of the Wyoming 4-H program are adult volunteers who dedicate their time, energy and talents to young people,” said Kim Reaman, State 4-H Program volunteer management specialist with the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES). “Volunteers lead project clubs and community clubs, head committees, put on events and serve as resources within their counties.”

The master volunteer training is designed to assist volunteers in their educational roles in their counties. A range of topics will be offered, including time management, ethics and character education, working with youths of various ages, learning by doing, program planning, personality assessments and other topics directly related to working with youths.

Individuals who have completed the training will return to their counties and assist in training other volunteers on these topics increasing the effectiveness of the volunteer staff.

“Each county 4-H program has a close partnership between county 4-H educators and volunteers in the community,” said Reaman. “The 4-H volunteers in the local programs are essential in reaching as many young people as possible.”
