UW course promotes understanding of Hot Springs County climate, soils, plants
The University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) will offer “Short course: Wyoming Climate, Soils and Plants” Thursday, Feb. 26, in Thermopolis.
The course is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Big Horn Federal Savings Bank.
“The goals of the short course are to provide information about climate, soils and plants, and to promote understanding of the challenges of desert living in Hot Springs County,” said Sandra Frost, UW CES crop systems educator.
The course is open to the public and is certified for six hours of elective continuing education credit with the Wyoming Real Estate Commission. “Information from the short course will assist real estate agents and landowners in planning development of acreages,” Frost added.
In “Wyoming Climate,” Frost will discuss geography, precipitation, temperature, snowfall, data collection and a comparison of Wyoming locations.
In “Wyoming Soil,” Frost will provide an introduction to Wyoming soils that includes physical and chemical characteristics of soils in an arid environment.
“Wyoming Plants” will provide scientific information on how plants adapt to Wyoming climate and soils. Students will learn why selecting adapted ornamental or native plants can lead to more successful landscaping.
The registration fee of $20 per person may be paid at the door. To register, call (307) 754-8836. For more information, contact Frost at (307) 754-8836, or sfrost1@uwyo.edu.
