December 7, 20074-H youth educator joins Goshen County extension office
Jamie Mehling joined the Goshen County University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) office Dec. 6 as a 4-H youth educator.
Mehling has been serving in the position part-time since September, said Susan James, federal relations staff development coordinator with UW CES.
Mehling, who grew up near Treynor, Iowa, is a 2001 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in social science education. An Iowa 4-H alumnus, Mehling participated in 4-H in West Pottawattamie County, where she took projects ranging from home economics to foods, photography, citizenship and market beef. She worked three summers as a 4-H program assistant in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Mehling taught social studies for one year in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and three years at Gering Junior High in Gering, Neb. She substitute taught for the past two and a half years at Goshen County Schools and Morrill and Mitchell public schools in Nebraska.
She is married to Kelly Mehling, a 1998 graduate of the University of Wyoming. They live near Huntley.
“I’m really looking forward to becoming an integral part of the communities in Goshen County as well as working with people throughout the state,” said Mehling. “Goshen County has an outstanding group of volunteers and members to work with, and I’m excited about helping their traditional 4-H program grow.”
James said Mehling is a great addition to the Goshen County team.
“Her vast knowledge of 4-H and strong organizational skills will be an asset to the youth development program,” James said.
