Jeff EdwardsEducator joins Goshen County Cooperative Extension Service office

Jeff Edwards will begin as a University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) educator Oct. 20 in Goshen County.

Edwards, with an emphasis in crop systems, will be based in Goshen County and serve Goshen, Laramie and Platte counties.

“I’ve lived and worked in Goshen County on multiple occasions as an adult, know and interact with many individuals in the community, and feel it is an opportunity to give back to the community and the state of Wyoming,” Edwards said about accepting the position.

Edwards received a bachelor’s degree in entomology from the University of Wyoming in 1987, and a master’s degree in entomology from Texas A&M University in 1991. He spent more than 15 years working for Dow AgroSciences in both sales and research positions. Most recently, he and his wife have been involved in an entrepreneurial farming operation creating a market for fresh raspberries, strawberries and other “u-pick” and “pre-picked/truck-type” produce in southeastern Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle.

“Edwards’ experience in private enterprise will be an asset in addition to his entomology education he brings to the Profitable and Sustainable Agriculture Systems Initiative Team,” said Susan James, UW CES federal relations and staff development coordinator.

The goal of the team is to promote the adoption of sustainable agricultural systems through education, and its objective is to develop educational programming on sustainable forage-based livestock systems.
