4-H educator starts in Albany County

Mary Louise Wood will begin Dec. 17 as the 4-H/youth extension educator in Albany County.

A long-time 4-H volunteer, Wood is a December 2007 graduate of the University of Wyoming in the College of Agriculture with a bachelor’s degree in microbiology.

An alumnus of the Park County 4-H program, Wood has been active at both the county and state level as a volunteer, said Susan James, federal relations and staff development coordinator with the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service.

Wood is a past president of the State 4-H Council, and she worked as a volunteer adviser for a number of years with the State 4-H Ambassadors.

“I have been a volunteer 4-H leader for the past 25 years, and I am looking forward to working with the youths, leaders and parents of the Albany County 4-H program,” said Wood. “I think we have the best program in the state, and I can’t wait to work with all those involved in Albany County to make the ‘best better’ – the 4-H motto. I would like to see more youths and adults involved in our program and for people to realize 4-H is so much more than just livestock. Livestock are a great project, but there are so many other diverse avenues to explore.”

According to James, “Mary Louise brings tremendous experience working with youths and volunteers. She will be an asset not only to Albany County, but the state 4-H initiative team.”
