Combining major-university benefits and small-school advantages, we offer our students
a truly unique and quality educational experience. UW stands at the
forefront in the exploration of emerging technologies and concepts, giving
our students the types of hands-on involvement and one-on-one attention
rarely found at other colleges and universities. And we also continue
to be recognized nationally as one of the best values in higher education.
UW opened on September 6, 1887, with one building, five
professors, two tutors, and 42 students, who studied philosophy, arts,
literature, and sciences. Today, we provide our 13,000 students more
than 180 programs of study at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional
levels; an outstanding faculty; and world-class research facilities —all
set against the idyllic backdrop of southeastern Wyoming’s rugged mountains
and high plains.
Our main campus is located in Laramie, approximately two hours north of Denver. The university also maintains the UW/Casper College Center, nine outreach education centers across Wyoming, and Cooperative Extension Service centers in each of the state’s 23 counties and on the Wind River Indian Reservation.
