Gatekeepers = Lifesavers Training (Suicide Prevention Training)


UW University Counseling Center (UCC) applied for and received a three-year campus suicide prevention grant from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

As part of a comprehensive suicide prevention initiative titled "UW Lifesavers Initiative," the UCC will provide Gatekeepers = Lifesavers training to student, staff, and faculty organizations that will help identify students at risk of suicide attempts and suicide.

Goals for Gatekeepers = Lifesavers Training Participants:
Increase knowledge of:

   •  Warning signs of suicide, risk and protective factors
   •  Resources available and appropriate actions to take
   •  Symptoms of depression

Aims:
   •  Promote help-seeking behavior
   •  Reduce the stigma of seeking care for mental and behavioral health problems
