A string orchestra for 6th through 9th graders

 

AUDITION DATE AND TIME:
Monday, September 11
Beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Phone 766-5243 to schedule an audition time. UW String Project students may schedule an audition at UW String Project Registration on September 8

AUDITION LOCATION:

UW Lab School music room

WHO CAN AUDITION?
String players in 6th-9th grades

REHEARSALS:
Mondays from 7:00-8:15 p.m., beginning on September 18

REHEARSAL LOCATION:
UW Lab School General Music Room

REGISTRATION and TUITION FEE:
$35 tuition plus a $5 registration and a $5 material fee
($45 total, cash or checks payable to UW)
String Project Students: Regular UW String Project Tuition, with no additional fees

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Scales Violins: G major, two octaves; B-flat major, one octave
Violas: C major, two octaves; B-flat major, one octave
Cellos: C major, two octaves; B-flat major, one octave
Basses: G major, one octave; B-flat major, one octave
• Sight reading—a short excerpt will be provided at the audition
• A solo for your instrument—FIRST VIOLINISTS MUST DEMONSTRATE AN ABILITY TO PLAY IN THIRD POSITION OR HIGHER

A solo is a piece of music for your instrument alone or with piano accompaniment. (You won’t need to play with piano for your audition.) Orchestra and ensemble music with multiple parts are not considered solos. Consult with your teacher if you are unsure what to play.

Suggested solos:
VIOLIN AND VIOLA: Suzuki Book 2 or higher
CELLO: Suzuki Book 1, Minuet #2 or higher
BASS: Solo of your choice
