The McNair Scholars Program prepares undergraduate students from groups traditionally underrepresented in graduate education for success in doctoral degree programs.

  Eligibility

  • Participants must be students from limited income families and be the first generation to complete a baccalaureate degree OR
  • Be a member of an ethnic group that includes Hispanics, Native Americans, or African American individuals
  • Students must have at least 60 credit hours with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Scholars must have a strong desire to earn a Ph.D.

  Services
 

Services include preparation for graduate school, individualized support services and a Funded Summer Research Internship:

  • GRE preparation
  • Seminars on completing graduate school applications
  • Discussions on the culture of graduate school
  • Academic support and tutoring
  • Financial aid advice
  • Personal problem solving
  • Funded research opportunities
  • The opportunity to conduct undergraduate research with faculty and graduate student mentors
  • Seminars on writing and research skills
  • Funding for attendance at national conferences
