A growing number of WSSI/SBIR client
companies have been applying to members of our Wyoming congressional delegation
for federal appropriations earmarks – FY08 budget requests from seven existing
and potential WSSI clients total $32 million. For obvious reasons, this source
of funding is becoming increasingly popular among our tech-based small
businesses – total Wyoming funding over the 25 years of the SBIR program is
approximately equal to the one year FY08 earmark request total.
To be considered for a FY09 budget earmark, your request should be submitted to
our two senators and our representative during January 2008. Prior contact with
our congressional delegation is encouraged to ensure compliance with the process
– for example, a request form should be completed and submitted before the end
of January as a part of the process. To receive a request form, call:
Senator Barrasso – Tel 202-224-6441
Senator Enzi – Tel 202-224-3424
Representative Cubin – Tel 202-225-2311
Dean Jeffries, Purchasing Agent for the State of Wyoming, will be discussing how
to respond to proposals, contract negotiations and statement of work, and
understanding and joining the Master Service Agreement Group.
When: Thursday, December 13, 2007
Time: 1:00 to 5:00 RFP Workshop
5:00 to 7:00 Networking Event

The most common comparison to angel investors is venture capitalists. Because the two groups are involved in similar businesses and in similar ways, the comparison is natural, but they have some very large differences. It can be helpful for someone starting a new business and seeking funding to have a firm grasp on these similarities and differences: Washington CEO (NASVF NET NEWS)
Progressive States Dispatch provides a wealth of information from across the country on capital formation, technology transfer and a wide array of data on transition to the 'New Economy'. In an increasingly global economy, states struggle over what policies can encourage the growth of high-value local jobs and high-technology industries that can compete. If one thing is clear, the often desperate bidding by states to offer tax subsidies to businesses to relocate to their state is a failure: Progressive States Dispatch (NASVF Net News)
Delving deeper into seed and other early-stage deals requires a more precise understanding of what such terms really mean. For instance, what constitutes a seed round? With angels increasingly participating in Series A deals and more venture firms doing deals of less than $1 million, the term "seed" is murky. Until recently, such rounds clearly encompassed angel and friends-and-family rounds prior to institutional money, but now that doesn't seem as appropriate. The Seed Stage (NASVF Net News)
Some things were just never meant to be, but that doesn't mean that investors won't pile millions of dollars upon a bad idea — or even a good idea gone bad. Whether they crashed and burned or sucked investors dry, these ventures just didn't work out. Check out CRM's graveyard of dreams and money to get a look at venture-capital investments that just weren't wise: Inside CRM (NASVF Net News)
