1.0 NEW WSSI OUTREACH COORDINATOR – KELLY HAIGLER CORNISH

With the departure of Jill Kline as WSSI Outreach Coordinator, Kelly Haigler Cornish has graciously agreed to temporarily take on many of the duties of that important position until a permanent solution has been determined. Specifically, Kelly will be responsible for producing this newsletter, and most importantly, she will administer the WSSI Phase 0 program. Additionally, Kelly will be the primary point of contact for WSSI program information. Welcome aboard, Kelly!

2.0 WSSI NEWSLETTER PRODUCED MONTHLY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Production of the WSSI newsletter is demanding, too little appreciated because Jill so effortlessly accomplished the task. Now that Kelly has assumed that responsibility in addition to her myriad duties as Research Products Center Project Coordinator, we have decided to publish the newsletter on a monthly schedule until further notice – it will now appear in your email on the last Friday of each month, beginning January 27. We may continue this schedule into the future so let Kelly have your opinion on this possibility.

3.0  WSSI PHASE 0 SOLICITATION HAS SOME CHANGES – CHECK IT OUT

We have made some minor changes to the WSSI Phase 0 proposal solicitation. The most significant one is that Phase 0 proposals must now be submitted to Kelly at WSSI@uwyo.edu (rather than to Jill Kline) no later than 5 PM on the first day of each month, regardless of the day of the week. Be sure to give the latest Phase 0 Solicitation a thorough reading before preparing a Phase 0 proposal.

4.0 NIH PROVIDING TRAINING ON NEW MANDATORY ELECTRONIC PROPOSAL SUBMISSIONS (HINT: IT AIN’T EASY SO PAY ATTENTION)

It will come as no surprise to those of you who submitted proposals to the NIH on the December 1, 2005 due date that the NIH is working hard to work out the bugs in the system that you encountered in the experience (the submission process is far too complicated in this observer’s opinion). To begin to overcome the difficulties many encountered, the NIH is providing both on-line and in-person training on the intricacies of the electronic submission process. 5.0 UPCOMING CONFERENCES/TRAININGS/SEMINARS/WORKSHOPS

    5.1 Government Procurement Opportunities for Small Business and Intro to the SBIR Program Course # WFDV 6041

    How to market your goods/services to the Government. This workshop will help small businesses learn how to identify potential government markets and provide the tools and methods to find contracting opportunities. Topics include the basics of local, state, and federal purchasing procedures, the bidding process, special Federal programs that are available and the services that GRO-Biz offers (free and confidential services). There will also be an introduction to the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program- a competitive Federal grant program designed to help small businesses research and develop new, innovative product or service concepts.

    • Send a message to jdrake@sheridan.edu including your full name, address, phone number, e-mail address, course name/number, the cost and desired method of payment. You are officially registered when you receive an e-mail or phone call confirming your registration. Do not send credit card numbers in the e-mail. They will call you to obtain that information.
    • Register in person on campus in Sheridan or Gillette at the Records/Registration Office.
