Gay Awareness Week 2001 Events Begin Monday at UW

Oct. 5, 2001 -- Panel discussions, information booths, movies and social gatherings are among events scheduled for Gay Awareness Week 2001 beginning Monday, Oct. 8, at the University of Wyoming. All events are free and open to the public.

A "Straight But Not Narrow" information table will be on display from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Wyoming Union breezeway. Members of the campus Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Association (LGBTA) organization will provide informational materials, stickers and buttons.

From 7-9 p.m. Monday, a panel of LGBTA members will answer questions in the Wyoming Room of Washakie Center. Refreshments will be available.

Two members of the Gender Identity Center of Colorado will discuss transgendered issues from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the Wyoming Union Family Room.

Wednesday, Oct. 10, the film "Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar," will be shown from 7-9 p.m. in Room 306 of the Classroom Building.

Thursday, Oct. 11, is National Coming Out Day. Volunteers will be available in the Rainbow Resource Center, located in Room 112 of Knight Hall, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to discuss LGBTA issues in a more private environment. Later that afternoon, a National Coming Out Day reception, from 4-6 p.m., is planned in the Rainbow Resource Center. Refreshments will be available.

Friday, Oct. 12, a dance with a Mardi Gras theme will be held from 8 p.m.-midnight in the Wyoming Room of Washakie Center. Refreshments will be available.
