Pokin' 'Round Town

Pokin' 'Round Town is an event the University of Wyoming Residence Halls Association (RHA) started 2 years ago after learning about the event from Northeastern University. Since that time we have adapted and changed the event to best serve the residents here at UW. The main goal of this event is to educate residents about the many different aspects that Laramie can offer them. Participants will learn about the great University they are attending, as well as the town of Laramie, including the downtown area and all the resources that area can offer.

This year, the third year, Pokin' 'Round Town is set to be the best yet. We have worked very hard to make this event the best it can be for the residents that live in the Halls. This event will take place on August 29, 2009 starting at 9 am and will most likely last until 9 pm. There will be check-in procedures at both times. We want to make sure everyone starts and finishes the event together.

Now you are probably thinking, "OK, what is this event again?" Well Pokin' 'Round Town is a 12 hour photo clue hunt that takes place all over the campus and surrounding area. You will be part of a six person team that can include any one as long as a majority of the team lives in the halls. At the beginning of the event you will be given a sheet of over 200 different clues. These clues will range in difficulty and complexity. Some clues are readily obvious and others will need a bit of searching. As you discover the answer to a particular clue you will take a picture with at least two of your team members included in the photo.

At the conclusion of the event, around 9 pm on Saturday August 29, you will be free to partake in any other event that may be taking place on campus that night. Your team will be responsible for turning in a CD containing all of the photos you have taken during the event. The CD containing all of your team's photos will need to be turned in by 2 p.m. on Sunday August 30th. One thing that we do ask is that you label each picture with the corresponding clue number. If any team fails to do so the staff of Pokin' 'Round Town will have a very hard time assessing the images and may not grade the CD at all.

Oh I guess I forgot to mention that there will be prizes involved! This is why your team must turn a CD in, which is how we award points and decide who the winner will be. Last year some of the prizes included; gift cards from various restaurants around town, ski tickets, and digital cameras supplied by Olympus Imaging America. We will do our best to keep you informed of our wonderful sponsors this year as they jump on board for this great event.
