Focus ProjectA major part of RHA at the University of Wyoming is community service. For our focus project this year at No Frills 2008, we will be working with the Laramie Community Holiday Program. This program’s focus is to assist families in need with gift giving. While most of their focus is during the holiday season, they are in constant need of gifts as families also can work with them during the year to obtain birthday gifts. RHA and Residence Life & Dining focus on a particular demographic--one that is often overlooked--when we ask students to give where they live. That demographic is teenagers, a group well represented by our mostly freshman residence hall population. "Give Where You Live" was named as a catchy way for students to see the positive impact they can make in the community. By asking students to “Buy One More” the next time they go shopping, the program receives gifts that make a significant difference in the lives of young people in the Laramie community. For No Frills 2008: Leadership Reaches A New Level, we will be asking delegates to bring at least one item that they themselves would want as a gift on a special occasion. Gifts such as lotion, CDs, clothing, DVDs, and gift cards are much desired gifts that will help Laramie's teenagers through their families being able to provide gifts much like what their more fortunate peers receive on special occasions. RHA--and its guests from around the region--can ensure year-round attention to a problem that exists beyond the winter holidays. |
