The President's Welcome

Right now, you are probably asking yourself what the Residence Halls Association (RHA) is and what it does.

RHA traces its history back to 1972 here at the University of Wyoming. Since then, it has split, disbanded, rejoined, and undergone just about any other organizational change possible.
RHA is the largest student-run organization across college campuses nationally and the largest Registered Student Organization (RSO) here at UW. RHA has three main purposes: Programming, Hall Improvements and to be a representative voice for the residents living in the halls.  All three missions can be summarized into the single principle of improving life for hall residents.

Recently RHA has put through several pieces of legislation that were voiced to us by the residents living in the halls.  These pieces of legislation carry key topics that are of importance to not only the residents living in the halls but for staff members within Residence Life and Dining Services.  The two pending pieces of Legislation that are on the table right now are one regarding a smoking ban to prohibit smoking activities within 20 feet of each Residence Hall as well as one to initiate the installation of hand sanitizer stations in Washakie.

This year RHA is planning to work cooperatively with many other student organizations including ASUW and the Greek Life Community. This year’s RHA staff is dedicated to planning and hosting many student involved programs on campus and has already seen interest by the students in many campus events.  We are also very excited to start our first ever cowboy extravaganza which will be similar to a 24 hour scavenger hunt in which students and residents will have to follow a series of clues and take pictures of their findings.

Please feel free to contact us at RHA@uwyo.edu or call us at (307) 766-3909 with suggestions and comments.  We welcome your input as we change the future and shape of UW-RHA.

Branden Hayes, President
