Leellen Brigman, UW Vice President for Student Affairs, congratulates David Kiren for submitting the winning entry "WyoWeb" in the "Name the Portal" contest. Kiren, a junior accounting major from Diamondville, received a digital camera for his winning entry.

A new Web site at www.uwyo.edu/aboutwyoweb has been launched to keep the University of Wyoming community informed about the WyoWeb portal.

The WyoWeb portal will provide a central source of information to UW students, faculty and staff, from anywhere on the Internet. The portal concept offers access to information from a single, secure Web site that can be configured by the users to display only the information they want in ways they want to see it. Among the new features available in WyoWeb are improved student e-mail, online calendars, and targeted messages based on user profiles, says Dan Ewart, UW Information Services director.

WyoWeb is based on technology from SunGard SCT (www.sct.com), which provides software specifically for the higher education market. Many higher education institutions around the world use SunGard SCT's portal software, Ewart says.

Demonstrations of the product's capabilities began in April. Students can expect to begin using WyoWeb in August. From there, new groups and new functionality will be added during coming years, with the functionality identified in part through suggestions from users.

More information on WyoWeb is available at www.uwyo.edu/aboutwyoweb or from Jim Berrigan, Information Technology project manager, e-mail berrigan@uwyo.edu.
