To climb at the wall, you must successfully complete either a skills check (anytime the wall is open) or an introductory climbing wall clinic. The climbing wall is free to all paid facility users!
Skills checks are specifically for those people who have prior
climbing experience. You need to be able to demonstrate how
to properly
✓ Get into a harness
✓ Tie into a harness
✓ Belay
✓ Break a fall and lower a climber
If you feel you can demonstrate these skills proficiently, ask for
a “skills check” when the wall is open. If you do not have your
own equipment, we can provide it for you.
Introductory climbing wall clinics are for those people who have
little or no climbing experience and who would like to learn
how to climb. These clinics are taught by our knowledgeable
staff and usually last for one-and-a-half hours.
May 11–August 21:
during the summer semester these clinics can
be performed by the wall monitor any time the wall is open as long
as: 1) there is ample time before the wall closes to complete the
clinic, 2) the wall as not excessively busy. Please check at the
wall monitor desk for more information.
Dependents must successfully complete the skills check or climbing wall clinic to climb. Dependents less than 18 years of age must be supervised at all times by a parent or legal guardian. Dependents have limited access to the facility; please see the Open Recreation pages for more information.
Chalk, harnesses, helmets and belay devices are free of charge for use at the climbing wall. Shoes will be $2/day and $15/semester starting July 1, 2009. Please see the rental equipment page for outdoor rental (we do not rent chalk bags or harnesses for outdoor rental).
