General Information

Access/Cost

Facility users can access the climbing wall for bouldering anytime the infield is open, with exceptions for classes, closures, and rentals. Waivers, skill checks, and climbing clinics are no longer required for bouldering, just follow the posted rules and have fun! To top-rope climb at the wall, you must successfully complete either a skills check or an introductory climbing wall clinic.

The climbing wall is free to all paid facility users!

Skills Check

Skill checks are only required for top-rope climbing hours. Skills checks are specifically for those people who have prior climbing experience. You need to be able to demonstrate how to properly:
✓ Get into a harness
✓ Tie into a harness
✓ Belay
✓ Break a fall and lower a climber
If you feel you can demonstrate these skills proficiently, ask the wall monitor for a “skills check” the first hour of top-rope hours. If you do not have your own equipment, we can provide it for you.

Introductory Climbing Wall Clinics

Introductory climbing wall clinics are only required for top rope climbing. These clinics are for those people who have little or no climbing experience and who would like to learn how to climb. These clinics are taught by our knowledgeable staff and usually last one hour.

Wall clinics are only offered the last hour of top-rope climbing hours (4-5 p.m.). Please show-up promptly; this is a first-come-first-served clinic of up to 8 people.

Dependent and Spouses

Dependents must successfully complete the skills check or climbing wall clinic to climb using top-ropes. Dependents less than 18 years of age must be supervised at all times by a parent or legal guardian. Dependents have limited access to the facility; please see the Open Recreation pages for more information.

Kids Climbing Wall Challenge

This is a fun opportunity for kids interested in climbing on the Half Acre Wall! We are again offering a one-hour family climbing wall program on Fridays. Specific bouldering routes will be set for kids; a score card is used to keep track of the routes kids climb. Shoes can be rented in the front of Half Acre for an additional fee. Dependents and spouses must pay for access to the facility; please see the dependent and spouse policy here. Dependents must be actively supervised by a parent.
Dates: Fridays, Oct. 16, 23, 30, Nov. 6, 4-5 p.m., Half Acre climbing wall
Price: free with paid access
