Why does the sender field of an email received from a Majordomo mailing list look different?
Exchange 2007 has made a change in the way Outlook displays the sender for Majordomo mailing lists. Since this is a display change, replies to mailing list emails are unaffected.
In the past, the From or Sender field for email received from a UW Majordomo mailing list showed the actual sender.
After the implementation of Microsoft Exchange 2007, those using Outlook or Outlook Web Access to view their email will notice that Outlook displays the Sender field differently, showing the sender as "the mailing list owner on behalf of the actual sender."
For example:
If John Doe (jdoe1234@uwyo.edu) sends an email to a Majordomo list "uw-demolist@uwyo.edu," then list members who read that email with Outlook or Outlook Web Access will see that the From or Sender field displays:
owner-uw-demolist@uwyo.edu [mailto:owner-uw-demolist@uwyo.edu] On Behalf Of John Doe
As before, when a recipient of a Majordomo mailing list message replies to the message, that reply will go to the actual sender.
Individuals may have created mail filtering rules in their Outlook Inbox that relied on the prior behavior and will need to adjust their rules to take this change into account.
IMAPS and other mail clients may behave differently. For example, Mozilla Thunderbird will continue to display the actual Sender in the From field.
I can no longer sync email on my handheld/Internet device. What can I do to resolve this?
This most likely is a problem with the certificates on your handheld or Internet-accessible device. If you have Internet access on your device, please try installing the root CA on it by going to http://www.geotrust.com/resources/root_certificates/certificates/Equifax_Secure_Certificate_Authority_DER.cer and click on "Open."
If you do not have Internet access on your handheld/Internet-accessible device, you can download the certificate from the above URL using another computer. After downloading the file, move the file to your device. Once the certificate file is on your device, click on the file to install the certificate.
