UWyo Email Upgrade Planned for First Weekend in March

Upgrade to Exchange 2007 was completed March 6-8, 2009

UW Upgrades to Exchange Server 2007

2/19/2009

Information Technology will be upgrading the university’s Exchange email system from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 during the first weekend in March 2009. The impact on users will be minimal. The upgrade will begin at 5:00 pm on Friday, March 6 and continue through Sunday evening, March 8. Each user’s mailbox will be unavailable for 30 minutes or less. Unavailability can occur anytime during the weekend while the user’s individual mailbox is being migrated to Exchange 2007.

There are many benefits of Exchange 2007 including better reliability, greater performance, more capacity, and new functionality – for example, enhanced usability for Outlook Web Access users.

The new base disk space quota for each mailbox will be 200MB - in most cases doubling from 100 MB to 200 MB.

No email will be lost as a result of the upgrade and email will be delayed only during the time an individual user’s mailbox is being migrated. However, users are encouraged to frequently save unsent messages they might be drafting.

For more detailed information, please refer to the Exchange 2007 Upgrade FAQs.

If you have any questions, please call the IT Help Desk at 766-4357 (6-HELP), option 1, or send an email to the IT Help Desk (userhelp@uwyo.edu).
