Email Upgrades Planned at the University of Wyoming starting August 12, 2005 at 5 PM
(Email announcement originally sent to IT Customers on 8/4/05)
As announced on July 8th, new UW student Exchange email servers are
scheduled for implementation this month. Effective August 12th at 5
p.m., email (including student Webmail) will no longer be supported on
ASUWlink and existing email on ASUWlink will be moved to the UW Exchange
email servers.
In conjunction with the move of ASUWlink email to Exchange, all
ASUWlink users without Exchange accounts, including faculty and staff,
will have new accounts created on the UWYO Windows domain, with an
Exchange mailbox, which will now be the default destination for their
email. These changes will not affect faculty and staff currently
using Exchange for their email services.
Summary of email changes coming in August:
- All students, faculty and staff who do not have an Exchange
account will have one created. Current Exchange accounts will not be
affected.
- Users who wish to receive their email on other email servers
will need to create appropriate Exchange rules to redirect email
from their Exchange account to the desired address.
- Any existing email on ASUWlink will be moved to the new and
existing Exchange accounts.
- Email services, including Webmail, will no longer be supported
on ASUWlink. A similar service, Outlook Web Access for Exchange,
will be available to all users. The URL for OWA is
http://uwmail.uwyo.edu
- Those who use IMAP email clients (instead of Outlook) may
require minor configuration changes; however IMAP email clients
currently used with ASUWlink are expected to function with Exchange.
Implementation of the new email services will begin Friday, August
12, at 5 p.m. Exchange accounts will be created Friday evening and users
can begin using their Exchange accounts as soon as they exist. The
migration of email from ASUWlink to the Exchange servers will continue
throughout the weekend. Exchange email services will be available
continuously for current Exchange users.
