Systems
PC Team
The PC Team is responsible for monitoring and maintaining central
computer services that run on the Windows platform. This includes but is
not limited to the following services:
- central file storage and sharing servers
- central print servers
- central domain servers
- central database servers
- central web servers
- central application servers
- central antivirus servers
- central Exchange email servers
This team is charged with providing functionality that meets the
majority of campus users' needs based on cost to benefit analysis and
resource availability.
Unix Team
UW's UNIX Group is in charge of the Central UNIX servers
which provide diverse functionality and services to
campus-wide users.
The Sun Solaris operating system is run on servers with
from one to eight processors. Some of the services provided
on UNIX servers include:
- university email gateway for campus
- university virus scanning for campus
- university Majordomo mailing list services for campus
- university computer accounts management
- UNIX web services using the Apache web server
- central domain name and DHCP Servers
- central database and application servers for administrative
systems
- central news services for campus
