DSL Service for UW Faculty, Staff and Students

UW students, faculty, staff and retirees can subscribe to Qwest’s DSL Service through the University of Wyoming. If your home phone line meets Qwest’s requirements, Qwest will provide the DSL connection while UW provides the connection to the UW network and the Internet.

Note: The University of Wyoming is not a DSL provider, therefore,  DSL service is not available on the UW campus (i.e., offices, classrooms, residences, apartments, etc).

Advantages of Qwest DSL Service through UW

  • Use your telephone and surf the Internet at the same time
  • Considerably faster connection speeds than other dial-up services (e.g., 256 Kbps is approximately 5 times faster than 56.6k modems)
  • Cost savings through the University of Wyoming
  • Qwest DSL service is a dedicated "always on" 24/7 connection (no waiting to logon, no online time limits)

Is UW's Qwest DSL Service the Right Choice for You?

The University of Wyoming imposes bandwidth restrictions for the downloading of large audio and video files. This policy applies to UW DSL subscribers. Read the UW Network Access Agreement for more information. If you intend to engage in such activities on a regular basis you may want to consider other high speed data transfer options. A list of Qwest ISP partners for DSL service in Laramie can be found at www.qwest.com/residential/internet/isp_list.html#WY. Bresnan Communications high speed Internet service information can be found at www.bresnan.comtop of page.

Requirements for Qwest DSL Service through UW

How to sign up for Qwest DSL Service

If you would like to receive Qwest DSL service at home and connect to the internet through the University of Wyoming computer network follow the steps below:

  1. Check your location eligibility at http://www.qwest.com/residential/products/dsl/index.html or call the Telecom Help Desk at 766-4357, option 2.
  2. All Qwest promotions apply, so view Qwest promotions at http://www.qwest.com/residential/products/dsl/index.html.
Note: Do not sign up for promotional packages that include an ISP (internet service provider, e.g. MSN). UW will provide your connection to the Internet.
  3. Review the University of Wyoming Network Access Agreement. Type of DSL service and modem options are included in the Network Access Agreement.
  4. If you are eligible and agree to all terms of the contract, you are ready to sign up. To sign up visit the IT Business Office in Room 207, Ivinson Building, to complete a contract. Please bring your campus I.D. UW does not offer on-line ordering of DSL Service at this time, you must complete the contract in-person. We will then submit your order to Qwest for activation. Activations normally occur within 5 business days.top of page
