Application Security Office

The Application Security Office (ASO) is a unit of the Department of Information Services in the Division of Information Technology. We are located in the Information Technology Center, Room 280 or 282, and can be contacted by telephone at 766-5747 or by e-mail at accounts-it@uwyo.edu.

What we do:

Our office provides University of Wyoming employees and departments access to Administrative Computer Systems and provides account and violation monitoring.

Access and Account Maintenance

The ASO processes requests for access to Administrative Computer Systems. To obtain an account for the Banner Student Information System, PISTOL PeopleSoft Financial Information System, HRMS PeopleSoft Human Resources System or Advance Advancement and Alumni system, please submit the appropriate form found on our Account Action Forms web page. These forms contain instructions on the procedure required to obtain your account. Contact Client Support Services at 766-4357 option 1 for assistance with the installation of these programs.

Note: You are required to have an account on the UWYO domain to submit a request for a SIS, PISTOL, HRMS or Advance account from the Account Action Forms web page.

Your password is yours and yours alone. If a co-worker requires access to a system to act as your backup, an account must be created for that person. To request an account, the appropriate forms can be found on our Account Action Forms web page.

The SIS Banner system will not prompt you to enter a new password; however, our office promotes the frequent change of passwords. Every sixty (60) days please change your password to something that is six (6) to eight (8) characters long and nothing that you have used before.

The remaining systems, Advance, HRMS, and PISTOL, will prompt you to enter a new password every sixty (60) days. Please change your password to something that is six (6) to eight (8) characters long and nothing that you have used before. The Advance system also requires a special character to be included in its password. For instructions on how to change your password, please call our office at 766-5747.

Please use non-dictionary words that have special characters, #, and $, or a number inserted in the middle of the word. The reason for this is to avoid ease of password ‘cracking’ by unauthorized users.

If you forget your password or are having problems accessing your account, call the Application Security Office at 766-5747. In most cases we will reset your password at your request and send you an email confirming the password change. If you don’t receive the confirmation email, contact the ASO at the above number.

If you transfer to another department on campus your access may not follow to your new position. The supervisor from your new department needs to fill out the forms on the ASO web page to request that your accounts be transferred to your new position.

If you leave the university, please have your supervisor contact the ASO to remove your accounts by filling out the appropriate form(s) from our web page. Once we receive the form(s) we will process your request to have your account(s) removed.

Account and Violation Monitoring

The ASO monitors these accounts, and investigates any suspicious activity.
