The Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is an electronic reporting data base that all registered universities in the United States must maintain in order to host F-1 and J-1 students/scholars. Personal data is loaded into SEVIS and a file on that student or scholar is created for the Department of State, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) when a student has been admitted or a scholar is hired by the University of Wyoming. It is referred to when the student or scholar goes to get their visa, comes through a U.S. port of entry, and when they arrive at their host institution. Universities are required to report the arrival of new students and scholars in the SEVIS system. In order to obtain the required information it is necessary for students and scholars to report in person to International Students and Scholars when they arrive in Laramie. Failure to report in person could result in the loss of immigration status which may then necessitate the application for reinstatement to status.
