SEVIS Responsibilities Each Semester for Students


Universities are required to report certain types of information to SEVIS on each student each semester. That includes any changes in address, a drop to less than full-time enrollment, change in major, change in academic level, extensions of their status and so on.

In order to obtain the above information it is necessary for students to report in person to International Students and Scholars at the beginning of each semester and complete a "SEVIS Update Information Sheet." Students have 20 days from the first day of classes to do this so that International Students and Scholars can update their electronic SEVIS file for Immigration and Customs and Enforcement. Failure to keep information current on a student may result in the loss of the student's immigration status and they will have to apply for reinstatement to status.
