Scholarships for Incoming Students
Each year the Honors Program awards more than
$200,000 in scholarships to students who are beginning their
undergraduate education or who are entering the University as transfer
students.
Scholarships for Incoming Students
Entering freshmen are encouraged to apply to the Scholar’s Award.
The amount varies from $1000 to $4000 and is renewable four years.
Eighteen awards are made each year. First-time transfer students
are also eligible to apply for a Scholar’s Award. The length of the
award varies from one semester to two years.
The award
ranges from $1000 to $4000 per year and can be held in addition to other
scholarships, provided that the total does not exceed the cost of
attendance. The Award will be paid for a maximum of eight
semesters if a recipient maintains a 3.25 GPA and remains in good
standing in the Honors Program. To be considered for an Award,
applications must be received by February 1st.
Transfer students and advanced Honors
students who apply for the Scholar's Award will automatically be
considered for other scholarships.
Students
receiving Superior Student or Trustees' scholarships are generally not
eligible for the Scholar's Stipend, but are welcome as members of the
program.
Students
who wish to be considered for a stipend should provide a completed
Honors Program application and the following additional materials.
-
To give you a chance
to describe your interests and commitments, please submit a 250-word
statement about one of the following topics. We encourage you to
discuss a draft of your statement with family members, friends, and
teachers.
-
Discuss a problem
or question that you expect to continue studying during your college
years.
-
Describe a class
that changed your understanding of the world around you.
-
Discuss a change
you have made or would like to make in your local community.
-
If you had the
opportunity to travel anywhere to study a specific thing, process,
or event, where would you go and what would you investigate?
-
Please include a list
of your most important academic achievements and awards,
extra-curricular activities, work experiences, and any special
interests, hobbies, achievements, and commitments.
-
We would like to hear
from two high school or college faculty who know you, your work, and
your abilities. Please fill out the top part of the faculty
recommendation form before passing it on to your instructors.

Dr. Scholl
Foundation Honors Scholarships
Non-resident and non-traditional students who are first-time
freshmen or transfer students will be considered for the Dr. Scholl
Honors Scholarship when they make application for a Scholar’s Stipend.
These scholarships are designed for outstanding students who want the
benefits of an Honors education at the University of Wyoming. The number
and amount of these scholarship awards will vary. Thanks to the
generosity of the Dr. Scholl Foundation, we have been able to award four
scholarships for $1,500 each in recent years.
Lucille Schopf Guy Memorial
Scholarship
This scholarship is
intended for students who are graduates of Wyoming high schools or for
students transferring from Wyoming community colleges.
Reckling Family
Scholarships
Drs. JoAnn and Fred Reckling
established the Reckling Family Scholarship Endowment to encourage able
and ambitious students, from certain counties in Wyoming and Colorado,
to attend the University of Wyoming.
New
freshmen from certain counties in Wyoming (Crook, Weston, Niobrara,
Converse, Platte, Goshen, Laramie and Fremont) and in Colorado
(Larimer) are eligible for a one-year scholarship (renewable for a
second year). The scholarship endowment was established to encourage
academically talented students to enroll at the University of Wyoming.
Although the Honors Program administers the Reckling Scholarship,
recipients are not required to participate. Application materials are
available from local high schools and from this site.

Tillman
E. and Lucille W. Boyd Academic Opportunity Scholarships
The Boyd Scholarship enables
students in the University Honors Program to take advantage of special
academic opportunities.
These
scholarships are designed to enable students to participate in research
and educational opportunities, including study abroad, special summer
courses on and off campus, internships, student exchanges, and other
programs which contribute significantly to a student's intellectual
development. Because these are scholarships, the activity proposed must
earn academic credit toward your degree.
To be
eligible, a student must be a participant in the University Honors
Program in good standing, and the activity must produce academic
credits.
