Jeffrey Means, Oglala Lakota, joined the American Indian Studies Program in 2007. A historian, Professor Means identifies Great Plains Indian cultures, specifically the Oglala Lakota culture, as his primary area of research and teaching interest. Jeff also has won numerous academic awards and grants, including the first Power-Tanner Fellowship in American Indian Studies at the Newberry Library, the Burlingame-Toole Award from the Montana Historical Society for the best Graduate student article for 2003, and the Phillips Fund Grant from the American Philosophical Society. He has published one article and presented his work at conferences such as the PCB-AHA, the Western Historical Conference, and the American Society for Ethnohistory.  Jeff is currently studying the spiritual and economic relationship developed between the Oglala Lakota and cattle during the nineteenth and early twentieth century.
