1.  When does my health, dental and life insurance benefits go into effect?

Your health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance go into effect the first day of the month after you are hired.  If you are hired in January your health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance will start February 1st.  Retirement contributions begin on your hire date.

2.  Are health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance benefits automatic?

No, only long-term disability insurance is automatic.  You will attend new employee orientation and receive instructions on how and when to enroll for the benefits.

3. How long do I have to enroll for benefits?

Thirty-one days from your eligibility date.  For example if you are hired in January you are eligible February 1st, and have 31 days from February 1st to enroll for your health, dental and life insurance benefits.

4.  Can my dependents have dental insurance without having them on the health insurance?

Yes.

5.  Once I choose either the $350, $750, $1500 or $2500 deductible can I change it?

Yes, we have a plan transfer period every November.  This allows you to change your deductible.  The new deductible  takes effect the following January 1.

6.  If I miss the 31-day enrollment period will I still be allowed to sign up for health, dental, and life insurance coverage?

No, you have to wait until an open enrollment period.  Currently open enrollment periods are scheduled for every odd numbered year for coverage starting January 1 of the following even numbered year.  If you have a change in family status you may be able to enroll for health and dental insurance prior to open enrollment.  If you do have a change in family status (spouse's job change, marriage, adoption or birth of a child, divorce, death, etc.) please contact the Benefit Office at (307) 766-4220 within 31 days of the change to determine whether or not you can enroll at that time.

7.  If I do not want the health, dental and life insurance coverage offered through the university do I have to have them?

No, you do not have to take advantage of the benefits offered through the university.  You will however, need to fill out waiver cards.  The state contribution toward benefited employees health, dental and life insurance will not be added to your pay.  Participation in one of the retirement options,  either TIAA/CREF or Wyoming Retirement, is mandatory.

8.  How do I find out if any employees are requesting donated sick leave?

15.  How much will health insurance cost?

16.  How can I reach the Benefit Office?

17.  May I put more money into retirement?

Yes, this can be done through 403b's or 457b's.  Please contact the Payroll Office at (307) 766-6144, Room 107, Old Main.

18.  What should I do if I am hurt at work?

Seek appropriate medical care, and contact your supervisor within 72 hours.  Complete an injury report within 10 days of the injury and return completed report to Human Resources, Benefit Office, Room 141, Wyoming Hall.
