Assistant Professor in Elementary and Early Childhood Literacy Education

The Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education in the College of Education at the University of Wyoming are pleased to announce a search for an Assistant Professor (nine-month academic appointment) to begin August 2010. All candidates who have (or will have) a completed Ed.D. or Ph.D. in education or related field from a recognized teacher education program are invited to apply. This position will be located at the University of Wyoming Casper College Center in Casper, WY. Responsibilities
Candidates will be TEACHING general and content specific pedagogy in elementary literacy as well as early childhood courses leading to state teacher certification, including oral and written language acquisition; graduate courses as needed; and working in the public schools in collaboration with in-service and pre-service teachers. Other responsibilities include research and service. RESEARCH includes developing and maintaining an active scholarly agenda which advances knowledge and understanding of educational theories and principles. SERVICE includes commitment to the department, college, university and professional organizations.

Requirements and Preferred Qualifications
• Earned Ed.D. or Ph.D. from a recognized program in teacher education by the time of employment (required);
• Three years of classroom teaching experience at pre-K-6 levels that include reading and language arts instruction (required);
• Demonstrated scholarly potential in areas related to literacy education (required);
•Effective communication skills (required);
• A strong background in elementary school reading and language arts with a thorough understanding of emergent and early literacy (desired);
•A background in integrating art across the elementary curriculum (desired);
•Expertise in early childhood education (desired);
•Experience working with pre-service teachers (desired); and
• Experience with Professional Development Schools, performance-based assessments, and classroom and school-based inquiry (desired).
