ADA/Reasonable Accommodations for Individuals with Disabilities at the University of Wyoming

In accordance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504, no qualified person will be denied access to, participation in, or the benefits of, any program or activity operated by the University because of disability. The University will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities in employment practices and activities, including, but not limited to, application procedures, hiring, tenure, promotion, advancement, termination, training, compensation and benefits. The University will not discriminate against a qualified individual because of the known disability of another individual with whom the qualified individual is known to have a relationship or association.

The Department of Human Resources (HR) has been designated to handle inquiries regarding The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act, Section 504.  All individuals who believe they may have a disability that requires an accommodation shall provide medical information as required by HR to verify the disability.  The HR ADA review committee will meet periodically to consider the information provided.   The committee membership includes:

                    Director of Human Resources (Chairperson)

                    Manager of Employment

                    Manager of Benefits

                    Manager of Records

                    HR Specialist, Sr.

If an employee (other than faculty or academic professionals) is determined to have a disability that requires a reasonable accommodation, HR, in conjunction with the employing unit and the employee, will identify an appropriate, reasonable accommodation.  Faculty and academic professionals who are determined by HR to have a disability, will work in conjunction with their academic unit and the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs to determine whether an accommodation is required and if so, to identify an appropriate, reasonable accommodation.

If no appropriate, reasonable accommodation can be identified, the ADA process is completed.
