Healthy Child Care - Wyoming

Child Care Health Consultants Trained!

Healthy Child Care Wyoming is happy to share that health consultants for child care are now available in many communities across the state!

45 professionals certified to offer consultation in child care settings have now completed their training at the University of Wyoming. Public health nurses, school nurses, UW nursing students and various other professionals have completed the coursework and a hands-on training session covering numerous topics, including:

· consultation skills,

· children’s mental health,

· child care health and safety,

· child abuse & neglect,

· nutrition,

· oral health,

· sick child care,

· injury prevention,

· working with children with special needs,

· issues of diversity,

· model child care health policies.

In addition, the participants in this training learned about child care across the state and how state agencies, organizations, and child care providers work together to provide care for young children and their families.

Because so many children spend much of their time in out-of-home care, using the expertise of the health community brings great opportunities for children and their families to receive necessary health services, education, referrals to primary care, and access to safe & healthy environments. In addition, child care providers and staff can benefit from trainings in health & safety, assistance with child health & immunization records and referrals for their own care.

Providers desiring to contact a certified health consultant should contact Wyoming Children’s Action Alliance, Child Care Finder, or Healthy Child Care Wyoming for names in their community. For more information on health consultation, contact:
