Student NewsFCS Students Recognized Each year the Family and Consumer Sciences faculty select students for specific recognition awards. The awards were presented at our Annual Student Recognition Event on Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Students are selected for recognition based on exemplary academic performance as well as contributions to the department, and university communities. The following student awards were presented by faculty advisers: Outstanding Freshman –Grace Shearer, Denver, CO

Phoenix Award is for a
student who has taken some risks or experienced significant
challenges while pursuing their education. It was awarded to Vanessa
Lopez of
Verna J. Hitchcock Award for
the Overall Outstanding FCS Student is awarded to an individual
who has chosen a path less traveled, explored innovative and
challenging aspects in our field, and set a positive example for
their fellow students while pursuing their education. Stephanie
Hunter, The current presidents of our three student organizations discussed their accomplishments for this year. Spring and summer graduates were recognized. Our guest speaker was Tricia Mason (BSFC 1999). She spoke to the audience about never giving up on your hopes and dreams, and about accepting the challenges that come your way.
