Outstanding University of Wyoming FCS students receive honors

        Eleanor Frye of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Lindsay Suchor of Gillette were co- recipients of the Verna J. Hitchcock Award for Outstanding Overall Family and Consumer Science (FCS) Student Award at the department’s annual student recognition event April 25.

       More than 100 students and their families, faculty, and staff members and administrators attended. Donna Beth Downer, an FCS alumna and former department head, was the keynote speaker. She shared the past, present, and future of family and consumer sciences with the audience.

            Students were honored for outstanding performance, service to student organizations, and contributions to their field of study.

            Students and honors, listed by hometown, are:

            Encampment – Rebecca Edwards, outstanding junior.

            Fort Bridger – Karissa Stevens, outstanding freshman.

            Gillette – Adrianna Carlton, outstanding sophomore; Suchor, Wyoming Dietetic Association Outstanding Student and Verna J. Hitchcock Award for Outstanding Overall FCS Student.

           Laramie – Deisy Vaske, Phoenix Award to student who has overcome tremendous odds while pursuing his education.

            Lysite – Brenda Cannon, outstanding senior.

            Powell – Elysa Nelson, Marion Yule Scholarship

            Rawlins – Ashley Ross, Ben and Allene Kohrs Memorial Scholarship

            Riverton – Tabitha Reece, outstanding junior.

            Torrington – Amy Copeland, Gayle Neubauer Shaw Graduate Scholarship.

            Fort Collins, Coloradoo – Frye, Verna J. Hitchcock Award for Outstanding Overall FCS Student; Meghan Doran, Ben and Allene Kohrs Memorial Scholarship.

            Longmont, Colorado – Allyson Bowland, Ben and Allene Kohrs Memorial Scholarship.

            Des Moines, Iowa – Janelle Wolfram, Marion Yule Scholarship.

            Blair, Nebraska – Katelyn Holloway, outstanding graduate student.

            Omaha, Nebraska – Corinna Jones, Gayle Neubauer Shaw Graduate Scholarship.

            Richmond, Texas – Brian Rett, Wyoming Dietetic Association Scholarship and Marion Yule Scholarship.

            Hawthorn East, Australia – Hanna Zavecz, outstanding sophomore.

            Madras, India –  Shafika Khaleel, Marion Yule Scholarship and Ben and Allene Kohrs Memorial Scholarship.

            Kisuma, Kenya – Caroline Omolo, Gayle Neubauer Shaw Graduate Scholarship.
