FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES
Objectives
Graduate curricula prepare each student for a career, citizenship, and personal living who:
- Is competent in the content studied

- Understands role in a global and multicultural context
- Demonstrates professional behavior
- Is an independent, reflective learner
- Integrates theory, research, and practice
Program
The major objective of this program is to provide a master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences to serve the population of Family and Consumer Sciences professionals. While there is no required area of specialization, students may select an area of emphasis in one of the following areas:
Human Development and Family Sciences
If the student chooses to specialize, the majority of course work will be in that discipline and related areas. The student’s graduate committee, formed during the second semester or its credit equivalent, should consist of at least two graduate faculty members from the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences and one external member.
Human Nutrition and Food
Textiles and MerchandisingTo apply you must complete the Graduate Student requirements form and the following three additional items for the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences:
A statement of intent including: (1) your prior work related experience, and (2) your future goals related to the program you are applying to, and (3) why this degree may help you.
A brief resume or curriculum vitae.
Three letters of recommendation.
