Five-Year Summary of Student Exit Interviews
What course(s) were of
least value to you? Why?
Academic Year Number Interviewed Number of negative
references to 2010/4010
1997-1998 23 10
1998-1999 26 11
1999-2000 23 10
2000-2001 15 12
2001-2002 19 10
Some comments:
I didn=t like the way 2010 and 4010 were presented. They need to work the bugs out. The instructors weren=t ready to work with all the majors.
2010 was just a lot of busy
work. I didn=t think 4010 pertained to anything. I didn=t
feel I learned much.
2010 and 4010 were just busy
work. Nutrition majors already have a
required scientific and technical writing course. The other majors don=t.
2010 and 4010 justify the
department but are not personally applicable.
2010 and 4010 had unclear
expectations.
4010 was hard because we didn=t want to be forced to work with people who didn=t understand what we do.
4010 could be such a great
class if it was used to help students explore job options and get ready to apply
and interview.
4010 was terrible. The
homework was ridiculous. Too much stress for a required class. The grants part
was beneficial but since it=s during the
last semester, it should have dealt more with resume building and orienting
students toward getting a job.
4010 and 2010. In 4010 the
main goal was good. And the information was good. In 2010, the class structure
didn=t help students see what the main goals were. There
were too many negative attitudes in both classes.
4010 was poorly structured.
The expectations are too high and there=s
no direction. I learned absolutely nothing.
4010. The group work was not
good. If we haven=t learned this stuff by now, it=s too late.
4010 was a dead end. The
material should be offered sooner; before the senior year.
Did you feel that course
work in the department of Family and Consumer Sciences has given you an
appreciation for the interdisciplinary nature of the field? If yes, which courses helped you develop this
appreciation? If no, how might the courses
in the department do a better job in this area?

Some Comments:
4010 was good at combining
everything.
Yes. 4010 really finalizes this. It prepares you for the working world. It=s a
good Afinish-up@
class.
Doing projects with the other
disciplines in 4010 made me see how everything ties together.
4010 was the only one I took
but I can definitely see the connection.
Yes. 2010 and 4010 do this well. Working with the other students was
good.
Actually 2010 did. I didn=t
know anything about the history of the field or the struggles for the people
who chose this as their profession. I
didn=t realize how important this field is.
Yes. 2010 and 4010. They
focus on different issues. Over the years I have seen the overlap.
Definitely. 2010 and 4010
expand your thinking and help you understand the broad FCS field. Bernita makes
sure it hits home in 2010.
Yes. 2010 and 4010 generally
cover this but the students just don=t
get it so you need to keep working on that.
Yes, in 4010 all the
different areas were represented.
Yes, 4010 could be better
though at drawing on others= strengths.
Research is interdisciplinary.
Only one class: 4010. I
realized that I didn=t know some of the other dietetics students. My own
area. I think that=s important.
I think I have an idea. 2010
and 4010 try to get the disciplines to work together but the disciplines are so
different. It=s hard to combine them.
Yes, in the 2010 class. It
was really good about how everything works together.
