Currently Director of the Cent$ible Nutrition Program at the University of Wyoming. CNP provides nutrition education to limited-resource families throughout the state. For more information, visit www.uwyo.edu/centsible. Prior to serving as director, was Education Specialist for 15 months.
From 2001-Fall 2004 served as Education Specialist for Wellness IN (WIN) the Rockies, a community-based research, intervention and outreach project to improve health in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Educational materials developed can be found at www.uwyo.edu/wintherockiesFrom 1986-1991 served as University Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Science & 4-H/Youth. During that time, five years were in Big Horn County and ten years in Albany County.
EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS DEVELOPED
Cent$ible Nutrition Curriculum: a series of sixteen lessons for adults enrolling in the program. Revisions have incorporated Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005, MyPyramid and a dialogue approach to learning. Dear Cent$ible: a 10-minute recruiting video for the Cent$ible Nutrition Program featuring past participants. Co-developed script and oversaw filming. Passports to Food Adventures: a youth day camp curriculum exploring food and cultures across the world. Revised existing five lessons to incorporate newer research and added sixth lesson with information from a Cent$ible Nutrition educator who had worked in Guatemala. WIN Steps, 2004: guide for community-based pedometer walking programs. Includes marketing, presentations options, newsletters, sample virtual walking routes, and evaluation tools. WIN Kids Fun Days, 2004: interactive food, physical activity and body image activities for youth ages 9 years and older. Collection of 40 hands-on group activities designed for youth day camps or short events. WIN Kids Lessons, 2003/2004: food, physical activity and body image lessons for youth ages 10 to 13 years. Series of 13 lessons for classroom and non-classroom use. Includes three 10-minute educational videos develop with teams of youth and an interactive trivia game. WIN the Rockies Video, 2003: informational video 11 minutes in length. Summarizes some of the benefits and research components of the project while highlighting people and activities in the demonstrator communities. WIN the Rockies Educational Materials Web Site, 2003: web site with downloadable files for most of the WIN the Rockies interventions. Includes curricula, media releases, posters, physician health prescription and information on community walking programs. Cook Once: Eat for 2 Weeks, 2003: educational packet on preparing and enjoying family meals. Includes recipes, outlines, copy of televised program, and conversation starter cards in Spanish and English. A New You: Health for Every Body, 2003: adult food, physical activity and body image curriculum. Series of 11 1-hour lessons. Includes one educational video, educator scripts, handouts, slides, and evaluation tools. Food and Physical Activity for Health, 2002: tool for physicians to focus on patient health. Worksheets to assist physician consultation with patient to incorporate WIN the Rockies principles in action for better health. WIN the Rockies Media Campaign, 2002-2004: food, physical activity and body image messages. Provided leadership for the development of posters, postcards, and billboards; message-bearing items including water bottles, strobes, balloons, grocery pads and fortune cookies; theme-based health messages for print ads; and radio spots. Breaking Size Prejudice, 2000: 23-minute video on size acceptance for youth ages 11 to 17 years. Obtained $7,000 grant. Consulted youth for development and production. Assessed quantitative and qualitative impact. Get That Body Moving, 2000: educational packet for senior citizens on benefits of physical activity.
