Research/Creative Endeavor

In the last several years, my scholarly focus has been more directed in the area of creative contributions where I have enjoyed considerable success/recognition at the national level, placing highly in many national/international juried shows and competitions.  Although I have competed through both academic and industry sectors, I have found that the type of creative work I do is more easily recognized/understood through industry competitions.  Each creative submission is usually the result of many intensive months to plan, develop techniques and then produce the actual work.

My creative endeavors are directly related to my teaching, with much of my teaching being involved in the areas of design and apparel construction.  My personal success has encouraged students to create and submit works to juried exhibits and competitions.  I have worked hard to establish this as a priority for students, partly by modeling such behavior, and creating opportunities for them to show their work.  An example would be the annual Coat Couture exhibit, which has become the featured summer exhibit at the University of Wyoming’s Centennial Complex American Heritage Center.
