Scholarship Information

Eligibility

All declared Communication & Journalism majors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 are encouraged to apply. 

 

Application

Students may apply for more than one scholarship.  Each entry requires a separate application (.pdf file requires free Acrobat Reader to view or print).  Scholarship awards will be determined by consideration of need, grades, extracurricular and/or internship activities, quality of the essay and the specifications of each scholarship.

 

Important Dates

Scholarship applications must be received in the COJO Department office (Ross 428) by Friday, 7 March 2008, no later than 5:00 PM. 

 

Scholarships will be awarded at the department reception on Sunday, 27 April 2008.  Recipients must attend the reception to receive their scholarship.

·         Scholarships may reduce other financial aid awards.  Please refer all inquiries to the UW Office of Financial Aid. 

Frank Norris Jr. Memorial Scholarship.  available to a Wyoming resident, of junior or senior standing, who is an outstanding UW journalism student interested in a public relations or advertising career.

 

Roy Peck Memorial Scholarship.  available to a junior or senior journalism major, who is a Wyoming resident, and in good academic standing.

 

Wallace R. Biggs Scholarship

 

Clare Kazmerchak Sikora Scholarship

 

Dreinhofer Award - Outstanding Achievement Student Publications 

 

Robert Combs Warner "Top Drawer” Award in News Photography and Photojournalism.  One $500 (minimum) scholarship available only if a qualified applicant can be found.  Available to a junior or senior majoring in the Department of Communication and Journalism.  Applicants must submit a portfolio of published clippings of single news photos or photo features.  Each clip should be accompanied by an 8x10 black and white glossy or 35mm slide.  In event of close deliberation, preference will be given to a qualified candidate who is a senior, a Branding Iron photographer, and/or a student from Converse County.

 

Carl & Dorothy Rott Scholarship.  Scholarships available to non-traditional journalism and communication students. 

Awards Reception

Scholarships will be awarded at the Communication and Journalism annual awards reception on Sunday, 27 April 2008.  (Place and time to be announced)  Recipients are required to attend the reception.

 

 

 

 

·        Awards will be disbursed over two semesters. 

 

·        Awards cannot be combined into a single semester disbursement.
