Teaching Assistantships and Other Financial Aid

Financial support is available through departmental teaching assistantships.  The beginning student who has been awarded a teaching assistantship will assist the forensic director or teach two sections of one of the following topics: public speaking, interpersonal communication, or reporting & newswriting.  The current stipend is $10,062 plus a remission of tuition & fees; students are responsible for the nominal A&S computer fee.  In general, graduate assistantships are awarded for one year and those students who successfully fulfill their academic and teaching responsibilities will be offered a second year.  A limited number of special assistantships are available University-wide for minority students, and the Department strongly seeks applications from such persons.

The Department does not limit enrollment just to those students who it can support financially.  Students who begin their graduate program without an assistantship and are successful are given priority when assistantships do become available.

Applicants may wish to investigate and pursue other forms of support such as scholarships, loans, part-time work, work-study, or service as a dormitory assistant with Residence Life & Dining Services.  In addition, a limited amount of financial assistance is also available to some students through the Office of Student Financial Aid.
