Lisa Brandes, M.D. - Physician Faculty Member

Lisa Brandes, M.DDoctor Brandes is a Clinical Assistant Professor and advisor for residents and medical students and serves as an Assistant Team Leader. She also sees patients in the Family Medicine Clinic. Upon completion of her BS degree from Kansas State University, Doctor Brandes attended Medical School at the University of Kansas and completed her residency at Wesley Family Medicine Residency in Wichita, KS. Her career spanned a variety of medical endeavors before joining the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program in Cheyenne. She was in private practice in Wichita for seven years during which time she served as a volunteer faculty, teaching medical students and residents. While in Wichita, she served as a Medical Director of a weight loss clinic that stressed life style change and health maintenance, which allowed her to pursue her interest in preventative care. She also worked as an Emergency Medicine Physician in rural Kansas. Doctor Brandes’ spare time is spent with her husband and three boys.

James F. Broomfield, M.D. - Program Director

James F. Broomfield, M.D.Doctor Broomfield is an Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine and the Program Director at the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne. He shares responsibility for the operation of the clinical practice and provides day-to-day teaching for the residents and medical students. Doctor Broomfield is a graduate of the University of Arkansas College of Medicine. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at the University of Utah Family Medicine Residency Program. Doctor Broomfield has completed a faculty development fellowship with the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne in January of 1999, Doctor Broomfield was in private practice with his Family Physician wife in Lakeview Oregon. His professional interests include rural medicine, obstetrics and procedural skills.

Whitney Buckley , Pharm.D

Whitney BuckleyDoctor Buckley is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice with the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy and the Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne. She Provides pharmacotherapy services and teaching to residents and students on a day-to-day basis in the inpatient setting. Doctor Buckley graduated from the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy, and completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency with an emphasis in Primary Care with University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Casper and the Community Health Center of Central Wyoming in Casper, Wyoming. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Wyoming in 2008, she practiced as a clinical pharmacist at Hoy’s Drug in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Her professional interests include HIV/AIDS, chronic disease management, and legislative issues affecting health care. Doctor Buckley enjoys reading, fly fishing, spending time with her family and friends, and hiking with her two dogs, Emma and Izzy.

Helen Iams, M.D. – Resident Team Leader

Helen Iams, M.D.Doctor Iams is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne. She is a team leader and provides supervision and instruction for residents on a daily basis. Doctor Iams graduated from Loyola University of Chicago Medical School and completed a Family Medicine Residency at Hinsdale Family Medicine Residency in Illinois. She was then a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. She currently holds a certificate of advanced qualification in Sports Medicine and has worked with athletes from high school through professional and Olympic levels. Doctor Iams has a particular interest in research and endurance sports. In her free time, Doctor Iams enjoys hiking and cycling with her husband.

Ronald L. Malm, DO - Medical Director

Ronald L. Malm, DODoctor Malm is a Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine and serves as the Clinical Director at the Family Medicine Center as well as one of the physician team leaders. He shares responsibility for the operation of the clinical practice and provides day-to-day teaching for the residents and medical students. Doctor Malm is a graduate of The University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine (Kansas City, Missouri). He completed a rotating internship at Grandview Hospital and Medical Center (Ohio) and his residency at the Smoky Hill Family Medicine Residency (Kansas). He was in private practice in Cheyenne for four years prior to joining the faculty in 1999. Doctor Malm was a part-time volunteer faculty at the Program prior to joining the faculty full time. His professional interests include pediatrics and wellness care. In addition he provides instruction in OMT to the residents and coordinates the medical student rotation at the program. In his off-hours, he enjoys fishing, hiking and mountain biking.

Robert Monger, M.D.

Doctor Monger, a Wyoming native, joined The University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne, leaving a private practice in Cheyenne. He left the state to attend Augustana College in South Dakota for his BA, the University of Utah for his MD, Michigan State University for residency in Internal Medicine, and University of Colorado Health Sciences for a Rheumatology fellowship before returning to Cheyenne. Doctor Monger also served as the Hospice Medical Director. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, Hospice and Palliative Care, and a certified Clinical Bone Densitometrist. Doctor Monger is active with the Laramie County Library Foundation, Leadership Wyoming, and a youth soccer coach.

Vicki L. Nutter, Clinic Manager

Vicki NutterVicki Nutter is an Assistant Lecturer for the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne. Ms. Nutter serves the dual role of Clinic Manager and Business Faculty for the program. She shares in the management of the day-to-day operations of the clinic and provides business related education to both residents and staff. Ms. Nutter is a firm believer that teaching business topics, medical economics and practice management to the residents is a very necessary part of their education. Vicki obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wyoming. Her previous business and management experience includes the oil & gas, hospitality and transportation industries in addition to medical management. Vicki moved here from Washington state where she had been the Chief Financial Officer for seven years for a multi-specialty physician owned medical group. She and her husband enjoy their pets and living in the country. Vicki spends her spare time gardening and quilting.

Douglas S. Parks, M.D. - Physician Faculty Member

Douglas S. Parks, MDDoctor Parks is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine. He also provides day-to-day teaching for the residents and medical students. Doctor Parks, a graduate of the University of Kansas Medical School and the Smoky Hill Family Medicine Residency (Kansas), was in private practice in rural western Kansas for seven years. Doctor Parks has completed a faculty development fellowship with the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network. He has a special interest in the skills needed by physicians practicing in rural areas as well as innovative ways to recruit and retain physicians for rural practice. Doctor Parks is a past President of the Wyoming Academy of Family Physicians. He currently is serving on the Chapter Affairs Committee of the American Academy of Family Physicians.  He enjoys hiking, hunting and music with his wife and daughters.

Jerry Post, Psy.D

Jerry PostDoctor Post and members of his private practice in Cheyenne provide Behavioral Science teaching and training at the Residency. He also performs consultative examinations for various State of Wyoming agencies, as well as the VA and other city and county agencies. He has been selected to participate in the Health Care Providers Loan Repayment Program administered by the Office of Rural Health, WY Dept. of Health.

G. Douglas Schmitz, M.D.

Doctor Schmitz is a General Surgeon , who serves as full-time faculty for the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne after being in private practice in a rural setting since 1984. He provides day-to-day teaching of the Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students involving in-patient and out-patient general surgery and endoscopic procedures. Doctor Schmitz is also the Trauma
Coordinator for the State of Wyoming. After graduating from the University of Nebraska Medical School he completed his Surgery Residency and Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Creighton University. Doctor Schmitz was named University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne Teacher of the Year in 1997 and 2003. His interest

Kristina Stefka, M.D.

Doctor Stefka is the only Geriatrician in the State of Wyoming. She coordinates, supervises and provides instruction for all nursing home patient visits with the Family Medicine Residents. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, Chicago, Il. and her Geriatric
Fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Doctor Stefka worked as a Primary Care Geriatrician and Hospitalist in Utah, Colorado and Washington before coming to Wyoming with he husband, who is a Pathologist at CRMC. In her spare time she enjoys almost any outdoor activity with her family including running, skiing, biking, camping and hiking.

Amy Stump - Pharm.D

Amy StumpDoctor Stump is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice with the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy and the Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne. She provides teaching to residents and students regarding appropriate usage of pharmacotherapy on a day-to-day basis as well as an on-going noon conference lecture series. Doctor Stump graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy, and completed a Primary Care Specialty Residency with Mission Hosptials/MAHEC in Asheville, North Carolina. She is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Wyoming in 2006, Doctor Stump was faculty with the Auburn University School of Pharmacy and the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa School of Medicine. Her professional interests include chronic disease management and medication access in elderly and indigent populations. In her free time, Doctor Stump enjoys reading, hiking and spending time with her family.

Amy Trelease-Bell, M.D. - Resident Team Leader

Amy Trelease-Bell, M.D.Doctor Trelease-Bell is an Assistant Professor and leader of the Blue Team. She provides day-to-day teaching to residents and students, as well as spending time in clinic seeing patients, both in Cheyenne and Pine Bluffs. Dr. Trelease-Bell’s special interests include women’s health and obstetrics. Favorite procedures are colposcopy, LEEP, and vaginal deliveries. After graduating from the University of Wyoming with a B.S. in Molecular Biology, Dr. Trelease-Bell attended Creighton University School of Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, ME in 1999. Her experience includes working two years at Monticello Clinic in Monticello, MN and nearly three years in Cheyenne in private practice. Dr. Trelease-Bell has also recently completed a fellowship in Faculty Development. She has had a variety of teaching experiences prior to joining the UWFPRP faculty including teaching swimming lessons, working with pre-medical and medical students in clinics, volunteering as an attending at this residency clinic, and working with residents on Labor and Delivery. Dr. Trelease-Bell enjoys downhill skiing, walks, reading and participating in her book club, spending time with family and friends, and her dog, Humphrey.
